(MITCHELL) - The Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce will kick off the 67th Annual Persimmon Festival Saturday.
The theme for this year's festival is "Mitchell Athletics - Past, Present & Future."
"I chose this theme because of my love of sports," says Lori Quebbeman, General Chairwoman of the festival. "I have been involved in Mitchell sports since I was little, and I still continue to be involved today as a coach. Mitchell sports have helped me become the person I am today, so I wanted to recognize the sports of the great school that I came from."
The grand marshal for the Persimmon Festival this year will be a group of Mitchell athletes and coaches -- past, present and future who will be riding on a float during the parade.
"I wanted the Mitchell athletes and coaches to get some recognition for their hard work representing the Mitchell schools and community," she added.
The festival will run from Saturday, Sept. 21th through Saturday, Sept. 28th. The parade will be held on the closing Saturday.
