(BEDFORD) - Clean Sweep Week will start Saturday and run through Sept. 30.
Bedford residents will have several opportunities to toss trash in responsible ways. The week is sponsored by the city and the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce. It will include several initiatives:
City sanitation crews will pick up appliances, old tires, construction debris and other material they typically do not collect. Call 279-9222 to make arrangements.
The chamber is encouraging people not only to tidy up their own properties, but also to volunteer to clean up streets and neighborhoods. The chamber will provide trash bags and coordinate volunteers to cover as much of the city as possible. Call 275-4493.
Shredding & Storage Unlimited will provide on-site, confidential document shredding at the chamber office, 1116 16th St., starting Wednesday and extending through Sept. 30. Take items to the chamber office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The items will be placed in a locked collection tote for shredding.
And on Sept. 24, Judah Metal Recovery will process "e-waste" - such as old computers, flat-screen monitors, cell phones, servers and so forth. The service will be officered at the chamber office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day. Computer hard drives will be pulled and destroyed on-site as they are brought in. (Tube-type television sets and monitors won't be accepted, however. Call the business at 583-6544 for information about those items.)
