(LOOGOOTEE) - Daviess County Rural Water will purchase at least 300,000 gallons of water per day from Loogootee under a five-year contract approved by the Loogootee city council.
Bo Wilson, superintendent of the newly formed department of works, says the contract calls for Daviess County Rural Water to pay $2.65 per 1,000 gallons of water.
The company will be charged for 300,000 gallons per day, regardless of how much they use, while the contract allows it to purchase up to 400,000 gallons.
Wilson says the contract was required by the company to allow it to receive funding. Mayor Noel Harty says after the meeting the contract would not begin until the company received its funding, which he estimated might take up to two years.
Wilson says Daviess County Rural Water would be a new customer for Loogootee, which would bring in at least $24,000 per month in revenue to the city.
The contract calls for the city to charge the company the same rate increase as its Loogootee customers if any increase occurs.
