(GREENE CO.) - A Greene County-based band will share a musical venue with one of country music’s biggest stars - Toby Keith.
Haywire has been invited to Klipsch Music Center in Noblesville on Saturday, Sept. 7. After the gates open at 5 p.m., Haywire will be featured on the Marathon Side Stage before Toby Keith takes the main stage at 7 p.m.
According to guitarist/lead singer Dusty Miller, of Linton the opportunity to play on the same musical line-up with somebody of Toby Keith's stature and fame is viewed as an 'awesome' opportunity. The opportunity arose, by a lot of what Miller called 'cyber stalking'. Miller contacted Keith's organization and they asked Miller to send a sound track. He did and it featured the band's fiddle player Levi Shields and within 45 minutes of sending the sound track they had the gig.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports, the band does not play bars. Their primary venues are 'fairs, festivals, concerts, weddings and corporate events', according to Miller. They've done some shows at the French Lick Resort, Bloomfield Apple Festival, Linton Music Festival and at the Greenfield Concert series.
The band consists of Miller, a native of Cathage near Indianapolis. He is the musical director at Saron United Church of Christ in Linton. He's also a graduate of Ball State University where he attained a music education degree. He is currently employed with the Indiana Department of Transportation. A classical trained baritone, Miller, who handles most of the lead vocals for the group, formerly played with the award-winning local band Awesome Possum Project.
Linton native Levi Shields, now living in rural Bloomfield, has been playing piano since age 5. He played with his mother and father, Fred and Mary Shields, from a very young age in a bluegrass band where he played mandolin, guitar and bass. He's a versatile musician who played trumpet in the Purdue University All-American Marching Band. Shields plays keyboard, provided backup vocals and has added the fiddle to his musical repertoire. Levi is employed as an engineer at NSWC Crane.
Greg Eaton, from rural Lyons, by day works at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle, but when he leaves the prison yard, he loves music. Greg brings years of experience to the band from his days with the Awesome Possum Project group. Eaton plays guitar, provides vocals and on occasion can be seen picking on stage with a banjo.
Craig Brown, who enjoyed growing up in Switz City, starting playing drums at age five and traveled with his family's gospel group, The Brown Family for many years. Brown now lives in Ellettsville. He works as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Bass player Roy Boyer also hails from Ellettsville. He's a veteran musicians that played in a variety of bands and musical genres. He's played with Lloyd Wood, Shelia Stephens, songwriter Jason Fickel and the well-known Bloomington blues band King Bee and the Stingers.
The group will perform at the French Lick Casino on Sept. 13, the Huntingburg Herbsfest on Sept. 28 and the Bloomfield Apple Festival at 6 p.m. Oct. 4.
