(LOOGOOTEE) - Loogootee Councilman Fred Dupps told the city council this week that Calcar, of French Lick will probably not make good on a bad paving job.
The project was awarded last year to Calcar, and the company subcontracted the Loogootee work to another firm, which Dupps says neither finished the work and what they did do was not up to the city's standards.
Dupps talked to a Clacar representative, who suggested the council award its paving bids earlier in the year so work could be completed earlier. In 2013, the paving bids were awarded in September and the paving was done in November.
Dupps told fellow council members that the firm knew the job was not completed and was informed the city would withhold about $1,500 in payment.
Dupps says he doubts the work will ever be completed, believing the company is willing to "walk away" from the $1,500 rather than return to Loogootee.
