(MITCHELL) - Nine people were left homeless after a fire destroyed their home at 125 West Mississippi Ave., Friday night.
According to Mitchell Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Reggie Johnson no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
Two families, totaling four adults and five children lived in the home.
Condra and Jeffe Lewis, lived in the home owned by Condra's parents.
Condra and Jeffe Lewis were assisted with a place to stay by the American Red Cross in Mitchell, while the other faimlies were put up by the American Red Cross in a location in Paoli.
Johnson believes the fire started near the living room area of the house.
Firefighters were dispatched to the house, made mostly of wood, at 5:58 p.m. When firefighters arrived the home was engulfed in flames. Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted in battling the blaze.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 6:30 p.m. but the home was destroyed.
