(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Security Center Officers foiled an escape attempt on September 4.
According to Sheriff Sam Craig the two inmates were attempting to dig their way out of the jail.
Officers located damage to a wall in one of the cell blocks.
They discovered that two inmates had used a piece of metal and a light fixture to scrap at the wall in an attempt to gain access to the outside.
"No inmates left the secured area," Craig says. "As soon as the damage was discovered the inmates were put on lock down while officers investigated the incident."
Two inmates have been charged in the incident: Aaron J. Terrell, 37, of Bedford and 33-year-old Andrew M. Wilson, of Mitchell are now facing additional charges of attempted escape and criminal mischief.
Wilson was in jail after Bedford Police arrested him on drug charges.
Police were on routine patrol at Wilson Park when they found a vehicle parked near the horseshoe pits.
Andrew Wilson told police he was having car trouble. They discovered Wilson was driving with a suspended driver's license and his passenger 27-year-old Frankie Meadows was wanted on a Lawrence County warrant.
During an inventory of the vehicle officers found 4-active one pt meth labs, a small amount of marijuana, pills and packaged meth.
Wilson, of 316 East Heltonville Rd., was arrested on charges of manufacturing meth, possession of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of precursors used to make meth, maintaining a common nuisance and two counts of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and driving while driver's license was suspended.
Meadows, of 1110 12th St., was arrested on charges of manufacturing meth, possession of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of precursors used to make meth, visiting a common nuisance and on a warrant for failure to appear on a theft charge and on a warrant for petition to revoke probation on a suspended sentence for theft.
Aaron Terrell is in jail after Bedford police also arrested him.
Officers were called to a home at 12th and Main streets where they found a meth lab in a backpack.
Terrell was charged with manufacturing meth, possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of precursors and maintaining a common nuisance. He was also wanted on warrants for failure to appear and theft in Lawrence County and for invasion of privacy in Mitchell.
Also arrested at the home was 44-year-old Christian Terrell, of 432 Q Street, on charges of public intoxication on a controlled substance and possession of a legend drug.
