(MITCHELL) - Two Mitchell residents found a small child wondering in the area of 4th and Warren streets Friday morning.
Greg Pannell and Audrea Whitmer attempted to find the 2-year-old child's parents and searched for about 20 minutes.
They asked several people in the neighborhood if they knew who the child was or where he lived. But they were unsuccessful in locating the child's parents.
They finally took the child to the police station just after 9 a.m. who then contacted a caseworker from the Department Child Services.
Police were able to locate the child's mother at 10:25 a.m. and asked her to come to the police station to speak with the CPS caseworker.
After speaking to the caseworker, the child was released back to the care of his mother.
