(BEDFORD) - Bedford North Lawrence Homecoming is Friday and the event will kick off with a tailgate party.
Athletic Director Jeff Callahan says the event is all about the three Fs - food, friends and football.
The BNL Pep Club is sponsoring a tailgate competition in the south end of the student parking lot.
Student and community organizations can compete for three awards: Overall Tailgating Champion; Taste of Tailgating Champ; and Outstanding School Spirit.
Judges Jill Weber, Joni Hayden, Mike Branham, Gary Dorsett and Brandt Kimmel will roam the lot surveying each tailgate entry.
The contest is all about school spirit and activities - from corn hole games, to a football toss or throwing a Frisbee - any event that would be fun during a trailgate party.
The judges may also ask questions about football rules and past and present team members - so knowledge is key.
Tantalizing the judge's taste buds will also come into play.
Each group is required to prepare food for their group and offer a sample to the judges so cook up your best dish of hot wings, nachos, hot dogs, fried chicken or ribs for the event.
Tailgaters can show up early, with judging to begin at 5:15 p.m. That way participates have a chance to clean up their area prior to the Hoosier Hills Conference football game against Jennings County kick-off at 7 p.m.
