(BROWNSTOWN) - The 45th Brownstown Melonfest, which begins its three-day run Friday, features several new events and activities with the biggest being something no local festival has tried recently: a fireworks show.
"We decided we wanted to find a focal point for the festival and came up with the fireworks show," festival president Trixie Deaton said of the five-person festival board.
"We took a vote and decided to do it (the fireworks show), and then decided we were going to do whatever it took to make it happen," Deaton said.
