(SALEM) - The Washington County Family YMCA announces that Indiana University head basketball coach Tom Crean will be the keynote speaker at a fundraiser banquet to be held at Salem High School on Monday Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m.
The Salem Leader reports that Crean, who is entering his sixth season as Indiana coach, has led the Hoosiers to consecutive Sweet 16 appearances and a 56-16 record over the past two seasons. His guidance of the Indiana program to success from "unthinkable depths" is regarded as one of the most remarkable rebuilding projects in NCAA basketball history.
This past season the Hoosiers won their first outright Big Ten regular season title in 20 years, and garnered a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament, also their first in 20 years.
In 2012 Crean was named the Sporting News Big Ten Coach of the Year, and the ESPN.com National Coach of the Year.
Before coming to Indiana, Crean served as head coach at Marquette University (1999-2008), where the program averaged 20 wins a year and made six postseason appearances, including the 2003 NCAA Final Four.
Crean, who is highly regarded as a speaker, will be making his Salem appearance just 18 days before the Hoosiers tip-off the 2013-14 regular season against Chicago State in Bloomington.
The general public is invited to attend this special evening with Coach Crean. Tickets for the Tip-Off Campaign Dinner are priced at $40 each and will go on sale Friday, Sept. 6th. Tickets can be purchased at the Washington County Family YMCA or by calling 812-883-8495. Tickets will also be available at Mid-Southern Savings Bank, First Harrison Bank, all three Washington County PNC Bank locations, and First Savings Bank.
Event sponsorships and special preferred seating is also available for the fundraiser. To be a Foul Shot Sponsor, tables of four are available at $250 each. The 3-Point Sponsor is a table for 8 at $500 each. A Championship Sponsorship for two tables of 8 is available for $1,500. Call Robin Deaton at 812-525-9772 or Kristi Noel at 812-528-0864 to reserve a table or for more information.
The Washington County Family YMCA is located at 1709 N. Shelby Street in Salem.
