(BLOOMINGTON) - The two peace groups, Bloomington Peace Action Coalition and Just Peace Task Force will hold a vigil today on Bloomington’s courthouse steps protesting against a military strike in Syria.
On Monday the groups protested at the courthouse giving passionate speeches against a military strike.
David Keppel, a member of both peace groups says people have been focusing on assigning blame for the August 21st attacks that killed 1,400 Syrians. He says the important question is whether a strike can either protect Syrian civilians or stop weapons of mass destruction. He says a military strike cannot do that and will engulf the US for years in war.
President Obama says he will ask congress to vote on whether to take military action in Syria after they resume their session September 9.
Shelli Yoder, who ran unsuccessfully for congress last year, says people should call and email their representatives now about their position on the issue.
