BNL Soccer Coach Steps Down

Last updated on Friday, October 11, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Bedford North Lawrence boys head soccer coach Shawn Krahenbuhl has stepped down.

Krahenbuhl, who played semi-pro indoor soccer for the Kansas City Comets and briefly in Germany, averaged more than 10 wins per season while leading the Stars. His BNL teams never recorded a losing season since he came onboard nine years ago.

BNL finished its 2013 campaign 10-6-2.

The Stars' coach had entertained the idea of stepping down after this season for a number of personal reasons, but a recent school reprimand for improper supervision regarding his team's regular-season trip to Columbus East made up his mind.

The reprimand came after BNL Athletic Director Jeff Callahan learned Krahenbuhl did not accompany the squad on the team bus, but instead drove to the Columbus match in his own vehicle. He was reprimanded for lack of supervision - but not let go.

Krahenbuhl says he had not planned on leaving, but the reprimand, his work and for personal reasons, he decided to quit.

Krahenbuhl says no one asked him to step down but he didn't want to be a detriment to the program after working so long and hard to bring the soccer program where it is today.
