(PEKIN) - Fabri-Form in Pekin has been in the community since 1953 and will be closing its doors effective Jan. 1.
Thirty-seven employees will lose their jobs.
Pekin Town Manager Gary Nale was shocked when he learned the plant was closing. Company officials have given the town no notice or reason for the closing.
The closing will have a huge economic impact on the town. Nale says it will be felt no only by local businesses but by the town which sells provides water and sewer service to the company.
The plant was built initially to produce door liners for General Electrical refrigerators and then added on producing pallets and trays used by school corporations.
In July, the company merged with Penda Corporation, which makes bedliners for pickup trucks. The new entity is called Penda Fabri-Form Corp and is headquartered in New Concord, Ohio.
