(SPRINGVILLE) - A fire gutted a mobile home at 988 Greer Lane in Springville Wednesday night.
Volunteer firefighters from Marshall, Perry and Indian Creek Fire Departments responded to the scene.
According to Marshall Township VFD Assistant Chief Jason Martin, firefighters were on the scene within five minutes of receiving the call at 6:10 p.m.
"I was impressed with the quick response from all the departments involved," Martin says. "When we arrived the fire had consumed about 45 percent of the older single-wide mobile home."
More than 17 firefighters with seven fire engines responded to the blaze and were on the scene for about three hours. No one was injured while battling the blaze.
Martin says the owner, George S. Payton Sr., was not home when the fire started.
"He had run to town and was on his way back when the fire was reported," Martin says. "A neighbor saw smoke coming from the trailer and had his wife dial 911."
Martin will meet with the state fire marshal today to investigate the cause of the blaze.
"I have a good idea how it started, but we are going to take a good look at it with the fire marshal," Martin says.
Payton lost everything in the blaze.
"The trailer is still standing and considering the age of the home firefighters did a great job of saving the structure," Martin says. "But unfortunately he lost everything he had. He is going to contact the Red Cross today to see if he can get some assistance."
