(ORLEANS) - Firefighters from three departments responded to a report of a grain bin fire on County Road 550 North Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters from Orange County Rural District II, Campbellsburg and Orleans were notified about the fire at 12:29 p.m. at the Austin Frentz farm.
Roger Robinson was renting the grain bins from Frentz and had them filled with soybeans.
According to Rural District II Chief Bill Sallee when firefighters arrived the soybeans were just smoldering and there was no visible sign of fire.
"We are not sure what started the beans smoldering," Sallee says. "We believe one of the bearings got hot."
Firefighters were able to turn the auger on and empty the bin.

"We sprayed down the beans as they came out on the ground," Sallee says. "They probably lost more than 500 bushels of beans."
