(BEDFORD) - Mindy’s Coats will be distributing coats to children and adults in need Saturday at 11 a.m. at Thornton Park Pavilion.
Brenda Guthrie began the coat drive at the end of last winter in honor of her 31-year-old daughter Mindy Guthrie who died in April 2008 from a rare blood disease.
Guthrie says Wings for the Journey, St. Vincent Dunn Hospital associates, the Bedford Boat & Sportsmen's Club and the Tony Stewart Foundation and Mindy's Friends as partners in the effort.
Many of the coats, almost 200, are new. Gently used coats also have been donated, and already have been cleaned for distribution. In addition to the coats, Guthrie has collected gloves, scarves and socks that will be given away Saturday.
