(BEDFORD) - The newly renovated former Stalker School in Bedford will open Oct. 11.
The building constructed in 1899 at 129 8th Street has been converted into housing by Hoosier Uplands. An open house will be held Oct. 11 to showcase Stalker Apartments.
Bedford City Council members supported the Old Stalker School District Neighborhood Revitalization Plan.
Carla Naum of Milestone Ventures Inc. helped Hoosier Uplands secure grants for the $3.5 million project.
Hoosier Uplands who owns the building had crews salvage everything they could to keep the building's historical character.
The 17 two-bedroom apartments and one one-bedroom apartment are energy-star certified.
All apartments are equipped with appliances including refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and washer and dryer hookups.
Rent will range from $250 to $500 a month, based on income.
A playground will be available on what was once the old school playground.
Tenants must meet federal income guidelines and are subject to background checks including both criminal and credit checks.
A ribbon cutting and open house will be held on October11 at 11 a.m.
Tours will be available until 3 p.m. that day. For leasing information contact Whitley Fisher at (800) 487-8890.
Hoosier Uplands Chief Executive Officer David Miller would like to thank the following partners and persons whom this project could not have been successful:
