(SALEM) - 29-year-old Daniel Arnold, of Salem, was arrested earlier this month and charge with domestic battery and strangulation after he assaulted his wife in front of his children.
According to police, Arnold and his wife were fighting over their daughter who was drinking a glass of milk.
The woman told police she was sitting on the couch with her daughter when Arnold asked if the milk his daughter was drinking was spoiled. That is when Arnold became violent and started screaming at the woman and grabbed her shirt ripping it. Arnold then told the children to go to their bedrooms because he didn't want them to see the couple fighting.
Arnold then began throwing items on the floor and demanded the woman leave the home. When she stepped out onto the porch Arnold allegedly shoved her to the ground. She got up and went back to the couch and that is when Arnold allegedly grabbed her again and put all his body weight on her neck and chest causing her to have trouble breathing.
But Arnold told police the woman started hitting herself in the face and he had been trying to keep her from hurting herself. He denied pushing her down or strangling her. The couple's son told police he saw his father hitting his mother.
Police say the woman had red marks on her neck and scratch marks on her chest and bruising on the back of her arms and rips in her shirt.
