(SEYMOUR) - A Jennings County teen died over the weekend after she jumped from a moving van north of Seymour.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says 16-year-old Laikyn Field, of North Vernon, died Saturday at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Police say Field leaped from a minivan traveling 30 mph in the 6000 block of Enos Road.
The girl's stepfather, Jason Bowerly, was driving the van and Fields and her mother Kandle Bowlerly were passengers.
The minivan was traveling east on County Road 700 north when Laikyn became upset and leaped from the rear passenger's side of the van.
Laikyn suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Schneck Hospital, and then airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital.
The girl's father, Kevin Field, was then notified about the incident.
The case is still under investigation.
