(MITCHELL) - Two men were arrested after Lawrence County police were responded to a home about the theft of a central air conditioning unit.
According to Chief Deputy Mike Branham, an officer was on his way to a home in the 1300 block of Motocross Road to meet the homeowner. But when the homeowner arrived he found two men in a Ford truck in his driveway and called police.
Officers arrived soon after and were able to detain the men.
"Officers spoke to the men and their stories just didn't jive," Branham says. "Officers were given consent to search the truck but found no stolen items - But they did find drugs."
Officers arrested:
* 31-year-old Derrick Hudson, of Bedford on charges of possession of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.
* 43-year-old Donald Shake, of Mitchell, on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.
Branham says officers are still investigating if Hudson and Shake were involved with the theft of the air conditioner or if it is a separate incident.
Branham says this was the third time in a week that items had been stolen from the home.
"Earlier in the week someone stole some scrap metal items," Branham says.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Sheriff's Department.
