(WASHINGTON) - The Washington Community Schools are investigating the implementation of a balanced school calendar for the 2014-2015 school year, and the school system is asking for input.
Several school districts across the state have either adopted, or are evaluating the merits of a "balanced" calendar or "year round school". It would mean have longer quarter breaks, and shorter summer
Reasons for the change include, providing time during breaks for remedial services for some students, while others believe that an eight-week summer lessens the loss of educational gains made during the school year and mitigate the need for three to four weeks of review at the beginning of each school year.
Some agree that it also provides families with seasonal opportunities for vacations without taking kids out of school.
The Washington Community Schools are asking for patrons to take a poll on the schools website. The site will be active until Noon next Tuesday.
