(BLOOMINGTON) - A Spencer woman charged twice this year with multiple cruelty to animal charged relating to horses on her Ellettsville Farm pleaded guilty to the crimes.
55-year-old Ruth Chasse is prohibited from owning horses and is allowed only to have one dog, her chickens and her barn cats "if they are properly fed."
Chasse was ordered in August by Monroe Circuit Judge Teresa Harper to find suitable homes for all of the 34 horses, and the numerous dogs remaining on her property or place them at a no-kill animal shelter.
In July police found five neglected horses and the remains of two dead horses and a dead foal on her property. It is not clear how the horses died.
She was charged with two felony counts of improperly disposing of a dead animal and five misdemeanor animal cruelty counts.
