(BLOOMFIELD) - Plans are being finalized for Bloomfield’s Third Annual Hometown Christmas event that is set for Sunday, Dec. 1.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that the event, sponsored by the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, will be from 1 to 6 p.m. with most of the activities centered around the Greene County Courthouse Square in Bloomfield.
Santa will arrive in a shiny Bloomfield Fire Department ladder truck at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Claus will be on hand to read stories to children along with an elf all afternoon.
There will be Christmas music sung on the steps of the courthouse with a rain location in the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, located one block west.
Several of the merchants will be open and old fashion carriage rides will be available on the west side of the square, according to Melinda Hendrix, one of the event coordinators.
Something new this year will be a 5K "Santa Run/Walk" at 2 p.m.
The race will begin/end in front of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library at the corner of Franklin and Mechanic streets.
Registration will start at 1:15 p.m.
Cost to enter either the walk or the run is $10 if registered before Nov. 22. After that date, entry fee will be $15 per person.
The first 50 participants will receive a Santa Hat, and we'll be offering prizes for the Run, Walk, and Best Holiday Attire.
Questions about the run can be directed to Kris Jarman 812-325-1998 or by email at kris_jarman@baxter.com
A number of vendors will be open at a 1 to 6 p.m.
"We are having a coloring contest for children up through sixth grade, and those entries will be displayed in downtown store windows. Prizes will be presented for Kindergarten and under, 1st-2nd grade, 3rd-4th grade, and 5th-6th grade categories," Hendrix said.
The coloring pages will be available from Bloomfield Elementary and Homestead Realty, and are due back by 3 p.m. on November 26.
"Winners will be announced at 4 p.m. on Dec. 1 on the Courthouse steps," Hendrix told the Greene County Daily World.
There will also be plenty of hometown food to keep the patrons warm on the winter day.
The Bloomfield First Methodist Church will be serving chili, hot chocolate, and cookies in the church basement all afternoon.
Happy Matt's BBQ will be set up on the square, and Mansions in Heaven Church will be selling gyros and more at 201 S. Franklin St.
Vendors locations are in Founders Square (East Main), Miles Building (34 E. Main), Yer Studio (N. Washington), and the Methodist Church (W. Main).
The Presbyterian Church Women will have angels on display in the window of the Miles Building at 34 E. Main.
