(BEDFORD) - The Board of Works took steps this week to move the old Milwaukee Depot from its current location near 12th and I streets to a lot at 14th and J streets.
The move is part of the $19 million Stellar project.
Bledsoe, Riggert & Guerrettaz Inc, a land surveying and civil engineering firm will perform a boundary replacement and topographic survey at both sites. The cost is $5,600 and the work will be completed in about three weeks.
Bernardin, Lochmueller & Associates will complete a two-paged itemized list of services ranges from researching deeds to locating utilities, to evaluating the depot itself - at a cost of $12,100. That work should be finished by the end of November.
Representatives of Edward Moving previously looked at the building and confirmed it could be moved.
The goal, in addition to moving the building, is to renovate it to house offices, like the Lawrence County Tourism Commission, and the depot will serve as a starting place for the city's to-be-constructed trail system.
