(WASHINGTON) - Cleanup is winding down in Daviess County after a tornado swept through the area on November 17.
The Washington Times-Hearld reports, most of the debris has been picked up by city and county workers.
Daviess County Commissioner President Tony Wichman say more than 200 tons of rubble and even more green debris were taken to the landfill.
Wichman says tons of tree limbs were taken to the Solar Sources Antioch Mine.
Crews still have one large pile behind Washington's Waste Water Treatment Plant to move, but are waiting on FEMA officials to take a look at it.
Wichman says the progress on the cleanup could not have happened without thousands of volunteers.
Volunteers separated tree limbs from building rubble and metal.
Now crews are working on picking up leaves in the area east of Ind. 57 south and south of the railroad tracks to the corporate limits.
Both city and county officials say the cooperation has been a key to the cleanup and it is continuing.
County officials are encouraging people with damage and debris from the storm to get it to the curb soon. County crews will be doing curbside pickups through today and then on Monday and Tuesday next week.
Officials say a lot of the insurance type recovery and clean-up that involves demolition of still standing structures isn't completed. That will be happening in the coming weeks.
