(WASHINGTON) - The Daviess County Council approved financing to revise the Odon-Cannelburg Road project and to hire a county engineer.
Daviess County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius says due to the changes in INDOT's grant process. it is now more practical and cost effective to complete the entire project to the Odon town line rather than follow the original plan of breaking the project into stages.
Cornelius says after a federal grant, the county's match on the project would be just over $2.9 million.
County Council members stressed the importance of expediting the completion of the project, which will include buggy lanes making transportation to the east side of the county safer.
The council also agreed to hire a full-time county engineer, because it would be cheaper than hiring an outside firm to oversee the project and would keep more federal dollars in the county.
