(BLOOMINGTON) - A retired Bloomington police officer and his wife won $3.5 million.
Richard McMurry and his wife Shirley are lifelong Bloomington residents who've been playing the same six numbers since 1990.
Their $2 weekly purchase paid off when those numbers--3-7-15-16-41-43--came up during the Oct. 30 Hoosier Lotto drawing.
Shirley bought the winning ticket at Kroger at 4025 S. Old State Road 37. The couple opted for the 30-year annuity and accepted their first $136,000 payment Wednesday. They'll receive a $116,000 payment for the next 29 years.
The couple met with tax, financial and legal advisors before deciding to take the annuity, which they said offered long-term security for their family.
Shirley, is a retired Monroe County employee. Richard is retired from the department of Weights and Measures but also served as a police officer with the city of Bloomington.
Richard and Shirley are motorcycle enthusiasts who are directors in their motorcycle club. They plan to make use of the winnings as they hit the open road.
