(SEYMOUR) - The Marion County Coroner’s office says the Oct. 5 death of a teen who jumped from her family’s van north of Seymour was an accident.
Laikyn Victoria Field, 16, of North Vernon, died of blunt force trauma after jumping from a moving vehicle and hitting her head on pavement in an incident north of Seymour, according to the report.
No charges are anticipated, Detective Bob Lucas of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
Police say Field leaped from a minivan traveling 30 mph in the 6000 block of Enos Road in Seymour.
The girl's stepfather, Jason Bowerly, was driving the van and Fields and her mother Kandle Bowlerly were passengers.
The minivan was traveling east on Enos Road when Laikyn became upset and leaped from the rear passenger's side of the van.
Laikyn suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Schneck Hospital, and then airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital where she died.
The girl's father, Kevin Field, was then notified about the incident.
