(LINTON) - The Trinity Lutheran church, in Linton, was burglarized sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
The Greene County Daily World reports that nothing of real value was taken, however Pastor Doris Sparks says two crosses on chains were taken; one has sentimental value, which can't be replaced.
The cross was a gift from her husband given to her when she completed seminary training 10 years ago. She is still in good spirits, but says the burglar will not be when they learn both of the crosses one silver the other gold are just plated products and not worth much.
The criminal entered a window after cutting the screen and breaking the window. The widow is on the side of the building behind a holly bush. The bush will be taken out now.
The burglar then broke into the office area, damaged a safe that is used to keep church records in, and kicked in a door frame and went through the building looking for items of value but found none.
Sunday morning's service was delayed about 30 minutes while an officer from the Linton Police Department looked over the crime scene, gathered evidence and lifted fingerprints.
Pastor Sparks says if someone had needed something that bad they could have called the church and they would have helped.
Sparks now has a sign posted on the church door that reads. "To the person who broke in, God loves you. We forgive you."
