Man's Body Discovered In House Fire In East Oolitic

(EAST OOLITIC) - Firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a fire in East Oolitic that has left one person dead.

More than 15 firefighters from Shawswick and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Departments were called to a ranch-style home at 661 East Oolitic Road at 2:44 a.m. Saturday.

According to Shawswick VFD Fire Chief Bob Brown the home was destroyed. The fire broke through the roof and walls when firefighters arrived. Brown says, firefighters went into defensive mode when they arrived because the home was pretty well destroyed.

Once the fire was out and firefighters could get inside the home they discovered the body of a man. Lawrence County Coroner Rob says they are taking steps to identify the man.

Herr says a forensic exam was conducted Saturday morning and officials are waiting to receive medical records and test results so they can make a positive identification.

The State Fire Marshal was also called to the scene to investigation the cause of the blaze.
