DNR Shares Timber Sale Revenue With 14 Counties

(UNDATED) - The DNR Division of Forestry has notified 14 counties they will receive shares of more than $314,000 as part of an annual distribution of timber sale revenue.

DNR Forestry allocates 15 percent of timber sale revenue from state forests to counties in which harvests occur. Each county receiving funds shares half with rural and volunteer fire departments that maintain a cooperative agreement with the DNR's Fire Control Headquarters.

This year, 110 rural and volunteer fire departments will benefit. Fire departments are encouraged to use the funds to improve their wildland firefighting capability.

"The Division of Forestry is quite proud of our more than 100 years of sustainable timber management, both for the long-term health of the forest and for the opportunity to provide a source of revenue to local units of government," said State Forester John Seifert, director of the Forestry division. "Sound environmental and fiscal management have long been at the heart of our management philosophy."

The 14 counties and their share of the total $314,148.99 being distributed are:
