(BEDFORD) - The Golden Gables at State Road 37 and U.S. 50 is closed.
Owner Kim Stigall says increased competition and modern lifestyles has led to the closing after 43 years in business. They closed their doors for the last time Sunday at 10 p.m.
Stigall says the business has been for sale for some time, but no one has shown any interest in keeping the business open.
Kim Stigall says business was going well for the 24-hour-a-day restaurant until the 2008 recession.
With more eateries opening in Bedford, the sit-down restaurant has had a rough time competing. Increased food and supply pricing also added to the difficulty of keeping the restaurant open.
Kim says when the Indiana General Assembly passed a law that banned smoking in restaurants they lost a lot of their loyal customers.
More than a dozen people work at Golden Gables and have found jobs or are looking.
