(WASHINGTON) - The Washington City Council and Community Schools have signed off on an Interlocal agreement that will provide a School Resource Officer to the corporation.
The move comes as the state of Indiana has made grant funding available for putting trained police officers in schools in the wake of recent school shootings.
A grant received by Washington Schools will reimburse the city for salary and benefits of Police Sgt. John Lagle who will become the first SRO at Washington. His duties at the schools will begin in January.
There will be a formal announcement on today at 1:30 at the Washington Community School Superintendent's office at 301 E. South Street.
