(BEDFORD) - More than 26 firefighters from four volunteer fire departments battled a woods fire at 606 Duncan Bend Lane Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters from Shawswick, Pleasant Run, Oolitic and Guthrie and TOPES responded to the scene.
The fire started after a resident at the home was burning trash in a burn barrel.
"It started near the burn barrel and then went straight up the hill burning around 3 to 4 acres," says Shawswick Captain Kyle Brown. "All it took was a little bit of wind and all these dry leaves and it traveled up the hill."
Firefighters battled the blaze from two directions.
"We battled it from here (Duncan Lane) and then from the top on Vinegar Hill Road," Brown says. "It took a little bit to get it contained because of the remote located - about 20 minutes and now we are hitting the hot spots."
The steep terrain didn't help.
"It goes almost straight up and down, but we have seen worse," Brown added.
