Plow Drivers Reporting Before Snow Tonight

Last updated on Friday, December 13, 2013

(UNDATED) - Plow truck drivers for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will begin rotating shifts today ahead of the predicted snow.

Drivers will report to unit locations throughout Indiana at various times depending on local weather forecasts.

Current weather forecasts show snowfall beginning this evening and continuing through tomorrow afternoon. Although projections vary across the state, Southwest Indiana could receive an additional 4-6 inches of new snow. Counties south of Interstate 64 could receive freezing rain prior to snow arriving.

INDOT has crews pre-treating highways, bridges and overpasses this afternoon north of I-64 and will begin plowing and treating interstates, U.S. highways and state routes as needed once snow begins. INDOT will continue alternating 12-hour shifts as long as necessary to ensure roadway conditions remain as safe as possible during winter weather.

INDOT advises motorists to learn about driving conditions before leaving. Drivers can monitor road conditions and traffic alerts across the state at any time by phone, web or social media. Visit http://www.trafficwise.in.gov or dial toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623) for INDOT's Traffic Wise Traveler Information Service.
