(BEDFORD) - The North Lawrence school board is considering making changes to the school calendar.
The Times Mail reports that Superintendent Gary Conner has been soliciting input on calendar options from principals and teachers. He presented two calendar options Thursday to the board for review
Conner told board members there is a preference to maintain the current calendar. That option would mean a full week for fall break with parent-teacher conferences conducted after the first grading period.
This year was the first for the school to adopt what was called a "modified" school calendar. It required elementary school teachers to have report cards out before the beginning of fall break. The deadline did not apply to middle schools and the high school levels. However the earlier deadline did not accurately reflect student attendance for the entire grading period.
The move to allow the first grading period to end before fall break begins would require school to begin two days earlier on August 7. If the board opts for the second calendar proposal school would start August 11 and there would only be a two-day fall break.
