(SHOALS) - Two Shoals LEGO teams recently competed against 11 other teams in the University of Southern Indiana LEGO Tournament at Evansville.
The Times-Mail reports that SAIC sponsored the two teams along with contributions from Shoals area businesses.
The teams, which included students in grades 4-8, were judged for their knowledge of core values, their project presentation and their robots' design.
The teams also competed in robot games, which required them to design, build and program a robot to do a variety of tasks within 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
The RoxStars won the Robot Game Award, ranked second for robot design and placed fifth overall.
The RoxBots won the Spirit Award, ranked third in robot design, third in the robot games and placed fourth overall. Nature's Fury was the project topic this year.
RoxStars focused on tornado safety at school and created a public service announcement for elementary students. RoxBots made improvements and modifications to an earthquake safety shelter.
