Weather Delays Opening Of State Road 54 In Greene And Lawrence Counties

Last updated on Friday, December 13, 2013

(BLOOMFIELD) -The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) had anticipated re-opening State Road 54 to traffic in December; however, it has been determined that the earliest the road is anticipated to open to traffic is mid-April.

This date is also dependent upon the weather throughout the winter months and the ability of contractor's crews to work.

INDOT closed S.R. 54 in eastern Greene and western Lawrence counties as part of the continued construction of the new Interstate 69 in July of this year. Weather has played a significant role in the postponement of opening the roadway.

S.R. 54 is closed from S.R. 45 (Little Cincinnati) to the junction of S.R. 58 (Springville) with local traffic and emergency vehicles continuing to have access to the point of closure. The point of closure is 3.0 miles south of S.R. 45 where I-69 spans over existing S.R. 54. The official detour will route traffic on S.R. 45 and S.R. 58.

Additionally, work to change the stopping patterns at the north junction of S.R. 54 and S.R. 45 will also be delayed until weather can allow INDOT crews to change the pavement markings. At this time, INDOT does not anticipate this to take place until sometime in early 2014.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a work zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit www.in.gov/indot or www.trafficwise.in.gov.
