(WHITE RIVER) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a boating accident that occurred on the White River upstream from the Petersburg boat ramp.
Around 1 pm Friday, Daviess County Sheriffs Department and Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a 911 call advising three men were floating in the White River after their boat capsized.
Mike Brown, 60, of Washington was operating the boat when the bow dipped abruptly while the boat was under power. This caused the boat to take on water quickly.
Brown and two passengers in the boat, Gregory Pearce, 46, of Whittier, NC and Donnie Wise, 31, of Mooresville, NC grabbed onto decoy bags filled with decoys which kept them afloat.
Pearce managed to stay with the boat while Brown and Wise swam to the shore. The men were rescued and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
All three men were treated for mild hypothermia and released from the hospital.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The subjects had been waterfowl hunting the river earlier in the day.
Conservation Officers strongly encourage the use of life jackets while boating or participating in activities near the water.
