(WASHINGTON CO.) - Washington County’s new highway superintendent brings with him almost 20 years experience with the department.
Billy Smothers, who had been foreman for District 1, assumed his new duties Jan. 1. A native of Okolona,
Smothers has served as District 1 foreman for 13 years. District 1 includes Franklin, Gibson, Jackson and Polk townships
Smothers replaces Jerald Shanks, who has been acting superintendent since the retirement of Rick Graves. Shanks, who chose not to apply for the superintendent post, continues as foreman for District 2.
Smothers' annual salary is $31,934.
