(OOLITIC) - Oolitic Council member Billy Burnett resigned from his position on the Oolitic Town Council Monday night.
Council President Delvin Nikirk was presented with a written resignation. Burnett was not present at the meeting.
In the letter, Burnett stated he was resigning because of "his work schedule and requirements" and he was "unable to fairly represent the people of Oolitic".
Because Shawswick 12 only has one committeeman in the district, a caucus will not be necessary.
Republican Chairman Patty Ford will appoint a new town council member who will fill Burnett's remaining term. The seat is up for re-election in 2015.
In other business:
* Delvin Nikirk will continue to serve as council president.
* Attorney Greg Pittman will continue to serve as the town's attorney.
* The Safe Route To School sidewalk project is moving forward.
Pittman told the council that he has the signed easement from Kenny Hawkins, allowing the sidewalk to be built.
"I have the signed permanent easement for the sidewalk from Mr. Hawkins," Pittman told the council. "I have a few more follow up documents that need to be filed with the state and then we can move ahead with the project."
