(MITCHELL) - The cause of the Mitchell Motor Sales fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
The building, owned by Richard Burton, was destroyed by fire Tuesday night.
The business at the corner of Main Street and Teke Burton Drive was started by Burton's father Teke in 1949.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, according to Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Fred Cassidy. The State Fire Marshal has been to the scene to investigate, but officials aren't sure when they will know the cause.
Mitchell Motor Sales had merged with Bedford Ford Lincoln a few years ago, and the building was a satellite location for Bedford Ford Lincoln.
Only one person was working out of that building, and his job was transferred to the Bedford Ford Lincoln dealership on State Road 37 between Bedford and Mitchell.
One item Burton's family lost in the fire was an original 1926 Ford Model T that Teke Burton had purchased to display in the building.
