(MITCHELL) - Tuesday night, a fire destroyed the former Mitchell Motor Sales on Teke Burton Drive.
According to Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Fred Cassidy, no one was in the building when the fire was reported at 8:20 p.m.
The building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. That was when Marion VFD was called for assistance.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A Marion Volunteer Firefighter was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment of possible heat exhaustion. However the firefighter, according to his wife and whose name is not being released, was still in the hospital as of Thursday.
The business had been in Mitchell since 1949 when Richard Burton's father opened the first store.
Tabernacle of Praise Emergency Services was also on the scene.
