(MITCHELL) - The Freedom Cemetery on the east side of Ind. 37 is getting a face lift.
Margie Pennington, a former Mitchell resident who passed away last year, had a love for the 150-year-old cemetery where her ancestors are buried.
When she passed, she left money in her will for the restoration of the cemetery.
Stonehugger Cemetery Restoration Inc of Brown County is renovating and making repairs to numerous headstones at the cemetery.
The group has done work in the cemetery before, but now the bequest is allowing for more repairs.
The group is re-setting stones, fixing broken stones and cleaning others.
The group has also done work at the Trueblood Cemetery in Lawrence County; as well as the cemeteries on the NSWC Crane base in Martin County, and projects in Monroe and Jackson counties.
