(BEDFORD) - January 27 to February 1 is Education Week.
The week will kick off on Friday when members of the Lawrence County Up 4 Education will address the crowds just before the BNL and Mitchell Varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
Up 4 Education is a collective, community-wide effort aimed at improving student achievement and educational attainment from cradle to college or career in Lawrence County. Other events are scheduled throughout the week.
On Thursday, January 23: 6 p.m. Financial Aide Night hosted by Mitchell High School. Counselors and financial aide professionals will discuss funding options and opportunities for families.
On Saturday, January 25: 6 p.m. BNL Basketball Game Education Week Announcement. Members of Lawrence County UP 4 Education announces Education Week in Lawrence County before the varsity basketball game at 7:30 p.m.
On Monday, January 27 11 a.m. Press Conference Up 4 Ed Week in Lawrence County kick-off held at the Lawrence County Courthouse Rotunda. Members will visit Lawrence County Middle Schools to promote 21st Century Scholar Sign-Up in a concerted effort to have all 7th and 8th graders sign up for Indiana's 21st Century program.
On Tuesday, January 28 Noon The community is invited to attend the Community Conversation Education Luncheon. The event will feature remarks from Ivy Tech President Tom Snyder and focus on growing an education culture in Lawrence County. Additionally, members of Lawrence County UP 4 Education will discussion in the local community and their efforts, in conjunctions with local schools, are working collaboratively to improve student achievement and educational attainment. The event will be held at the Bender Banquet Hall at 3120 Brock Lane in Bedford.
On Wednesday January 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Barbara Martin, 21st Century Scholars SW Regional Outreach Coordinator, Amy Lauer and BNL counselors will meet with all freshmen and seniors at Bedford North Lawrence High School to discuss the 21st Century Scholars program.
From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Lawrence County families are encouraged to visit the Lawrence County Museum, located at 913 15th Street, to sign their 7th or 8th grader up for Indiana's 21st Century Scholar program.
From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Barbara Martin, 21st Century Scholars SW Regional Outreach Coordinator, will lead discussion 21st Century Scholars program with attendees at the Lawrence County Museum.
From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Families with students of any age are encouraged to attend an informative presentation by Dave Murray, President of the National Center for College Costs, who will address the topic of making college affordable and discuss 529 savings accounts, using college cost estimators and different levels of educational attainment.
Thursday, January 30, at 9 a.m. Members of the Lawrence County 4-Up Education will meet with area 6th graders and discuss the 21st Century Scholars program and educational attainment at BNL High School's "Welcome to the Real World" event.
Friday January 31, Friday Focus Luncheon at noon will feature a speaker who will discuss the benefits and opportunities associated with having interns and starting an internship program at your place of business. The event will be held in the Bedford Chamber of Commerce meeting room at noon.
Saturday February 1, at 9 a.m. volunteers will be at the Bedford Junior High School during the Junior High Basketball Tourney to assist Lawrence County families from Bedford, Mitchell, Oolitic, Shawswick and St. Vincent Junior High Schools sign-up their 7th and 8th grade students for Indiana's 21st Century program.
