(HELTONVILLE) - A Heltonville man was injured after his vehicle crashed into a deer Tuesday night.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 43-year-old Michael Cummings was traveling west on West Powerline Road at 11:38 p.m. when a herd of deer ran in front of his vehicle. One of the deer slipped on the ice and fell in front of his 1999 Jeep Cherokee.
Cummings was unable to avoid hitting the fallen deer with his vehicle.
The collision caused the Jeep to slide sideways off the north side of the road and down into a culvert and over turn.
Cummings complained of leg pain and suffered minor cuts to his hand, but refused to go to the hospital, telling police if needed, he would have his wife take him.
Assisting at the scene was Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department first responders and an IU Health Hospital ambulance.
