(OOLITIC) - The Oolitic Post Office will only be open four days a week. Within the next week, Jeff Leffler, manager of post office operations, will make an announcement on the new operating hours.
About 40 people attended a United States Postal Service public hearing at town hall Wednesday night.
Residents received surveys in the mail and were asked if they preferred reducing the hours, roadside mailbox delivery instead of post office boxes, an alternative location by a contractor instead of a post office, or to use post office box services through another post office in a nearby community.
Out of 661 surveys sent out, only 153 were returned. 88 percent of those voted to cut the hours at the current facility. A majority of those wanted to see the post office remain open from noon to 4 p.m.
