(BEDFORD) - 2014 will bring several improvements to Bedford’s Parks.
Mike Mitchell, Superintendent of the city's parks, says plans are to refurbish the ball diamonds at Wilson Park and the creation of three new tennis courts and three pickleball courts in the area west of the diamond. Pickleball is a racket sport designed for two to four players and employing wooden rackets used to hit a perforated ball over a net.
Mitchell highlighted those improvements and accomplishments of 2013 during the park board meeting. Those accomplishments include the development of the improved soccer complex at Otis, an upgraded irrigation infrastructure; and a new septic system for the Red Brick. Improvements at Thornton Park feature a refurbished pool slide, upgraded pool filters, and fresh coats of paint. The horseshoe pits at Wilson Park were enhanced, thanks in part to a community-minded Boy Scout troop, and the community garden expanded to 36 sites tended by local residents.
The park board also approved the purchase of a 2014 Supercrew 4x4 from Hubler Chevrolet and a 2014 4x4 with a utility bed from Bedford Ford for the parks department.
