(BEDFORD) - The Dream Playhouse Auction to raise money for the Lawrence County Boys & Girls Club will be held April 12.
Last year the event raised $30,000 for the club. The auction was followed by the Ugly Duck Derby, Becky Skillman Leadership Institute and a golf scramble and donations the club raised $443,000. According to Jim Sowders, chairman of the club's resource development committee the merged debt of the club is at $500,000.
Committee members are hoping to eliminate the debit this year with fund raising events.
So far, six builders have volunteered to build a playhouse for this year's event are: Bedford Lions Club, Bedford Fire Department, a group called Friends of the Club, Spring Mill FOP, and Donovan, Emery, Hewetson and Pittman.
A sixth builder, the North Lawrence Career Center, has plans to build a playhouse but needs donations to purchase materials. Mark Ryan's drafting class is designing the house and Charles Wagoner's building trades class will build it. Angie Timan's students at Shawswick Middle School are helping with interior design. To donate, send checks to North Lawrence Career Center, c/o Rochelle Sowders, 258 BNL Drive, Bedford, IN, 47421.
Tickets, which will be available later, for the Dream Playhouse Dinner and Auction are $25, table of eight is $200.
